The Maningning Creek

Running almost 3 kilometers long, the Maningning creek has been a source of livelihood and a venue for other recreational activities way back 30 years ago. Children from different areas around the municipality join their mothers do their laundry while they enjoy the waters. Carps, mudfish, tilapias and other fresh water fishes swam freely in some of the areas in the river.

Located at the heart of barangay Sta. Ana in Taytay, province of Rizal, Maningning creek runs along four major streets in the barangay and the municipality’s main road connecting it to the Taytay river. It was considered as the main waterway in the barangay, reducing flood and danger among the residents.

As the barangay’s population grew and as residents started occupying areas beside the river, its water slowly lose its beauty and live creatures left the creek. People began to take the creek for granted, including the sangguniang barangay, whose main hall resides beside the creek.

Last December 2010, as the new set of barangay leaders took office and as Engr. Joselito T. Calderon, assumed the position as Punong Barangay, a historical movement has been born, that mobilized hundreds of people to give life and hope to the creek that a lot of people considered, unpromising.
